Caravaggio’s Cecco’ Serigraph Portfolio

Caravaggio’s Cecco’ Serigraph Portfolio

Exhibitions, Series and Works
This Portfolio is one of the last Printmaking Projects that I worked on while attending CSU Chico, a little over a year ago. I've been thinking of Printmaking a lot more recently and wishing that I could get back into printing (no press, and not much space). This portfolio was entered and selected to be in the CSU Chico 59th Annual Juried Student Exhibition my portfolio was selected for exhibition and the juror Glen Helfand made a mention of the work in his Exhibition Statement.  I really enjoyed working on this series and watching it evolve from early works that I wasn't really sure what the end goal was, into a cohesive work. Over a year ago when I was working on the early stages of this portfolio I made a couple blog…

LAPS Give and Take Print Exchange, Exhibition and Sale

Exhibitions, Series and Works
The Los Angeles Printmaking Society put out a call for Art a while back for an Exchange and Exhibition. Its titled Give & Take, and the exhibition is up from March 18th to May 9th. I made two prints, for the exchange. Both are Serigraphs, on an 8 by 10 paper size. The image size is smaller, around 6 inches on the longest side. The prints are in the Easternizing Western art series of prints that are based on historical paintings. The two for this exchange are both based on Caravaggio's paintings. The concept has to do with how we look at non-western art in comparison to looking at the actual paintings of western art.   [caption id="attachment_31" align="aligncenter" width="240"] Easternizing Western Art: Caravaggio's Medusa[/caption] [caption id="attachment_32" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Easternizing…

Valentines Day Card Sale

Series and Works
Print Club did a Valentines Day fundraiser sale this semester, I made two similar but different cards for them to sale. The design on the cards is based off of a painting by Michelangelo Merisi Caravaggio, better know as Caravaggio. Around 1601-1602 he made a painting of cupid titled Amor Vinicit Omnia or in English Love Conquers All. More on Caravaggio in later blog posts.   The English version of the card shown above was an edition size of 41.   The latin version was an edition of size of 20. The fundraiser was a success, Holiday cards do sale. The cards were drawn, then scanned into the computer. I printed them out and then exposed them onto a screen coated with photo emulsion. I had sixteen cards cramped onto…

Pushing Boundaries-Expanding Horizons; Juror on Campus

Local Art Events
On February 20th the Juror for the 10th Janet Turner National Print Competition was on Campus to select the works that are to be awarded. The Juror was Anne Collins Goodyear, who co-curates at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. There were also several of the Artists on the campus that day as well. Katherine Venturelli, Yangbin Park, Jenny Robinson, and possibly more that I did not get the chance to meet. It was a pleasure to meet and talk to the artists, and to be able to share my artwork with them. Later during my Advanced Printmaking class we had a small critique that Anne Collins Goodyear led, and the other guest artists could also participate in. It was very useful to have guest from outside of out department at CSU Chico to…
